The company, Natur i nord, is owned by Ivar Haugen (52 years). I am married and have two children. From childhood I have been hiking in the forest or mountains. During the long winters it is cross-country skiing. When I can take my family or my friends out in the nature, preparing a good meal, I am very lucky.
I have 5 years of education from the University of Agriculture, Forestry. I have worked for more than 15 years within forest managment and nature conservation by the Norwegian Goverment. I have also worked for one year with nature conservation in Svalbard.
Natur i nord is open all year round and is based on "the eco- tourism". I am specialising on small groups (1-16 pers) and I am using my knowlegde whitin local history and the nature when guiding. Natur i nord also offers arrangements designed espescially for your group if required.

The meals will be served either by the bonfire or inside a tent.
NATURE- AND CULTURE INFORMATION
Guests will be informed about the natural - and cultural conditions in the area. We will focus on animals and plants and how they adjust to a life this far up north. This will be based on how the use of the natural local resources, both on land and at sea, has built the grounds of av 10 000 year old population.
THE NATURE IN TROMSØ.
Tromsø is about 2558 km 2. The cost nature are very variable and contains 625 islands and Norways fifth largest island, Kvaløya. At "yttersia" we will find a picturesque shallow area with skerries and a number of small islands. Here we can find a.o Gåsvær, Musvær, Småvær, Lyngøya and Risøya.
In this fantastic island kingdom your able to see a swarming birdlife. Of the most common species we can find white-tailed eagle, greygoose and eider duck amongst others. We also have seal, otter, mink, rabbit, fox and domestic reindeer.
Because of its northly position and poorly bedrock, the cost of Tromsø has a rather poor vegetation. Still you can find areas that are particularely propitious for plants. This might be areas with scalesand or areas with a lot of birdmanour. There are also some birch wood and some larger boggyareas.
HUNTING AND FISHING
Tromsø has had establishment for about 10.000 years. It`s been registrated over 20 places from the stoneage (10.000 - 5.000 b.C.). This poulation made a living out of hunting, fishing and berries, roots, plants etc. The ocean surface were higher than it is today and we can find the old remainings at the beach, down by the sea, but in close range to freshwater and with good access to fuel and centrally situated to great hunting and fishing places.
It was of course the rich natural resources like fish, seal, whale, seabird, reindeer, grouse a.o., which made living possible for the earliest residents here. History is also telling us that this has been the situation all the way up to our days. The different types of natural resources were all used wisely. Fishing, hunting, eggs and feather gathering, keeping reindeer, agroculture and later farm animals.
